Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic played his first NBA Finals last season while guiding his side to their first championship match after 13 years. Despite the Slovenian guard averaging almost 30 points per game, the Mavericks lost the NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics. During the offseason, Doncic has been notably active on various social media platforms, engaging with fans and trolling his teammates.
Dereck Lively, the Mavericks’ center, recently posted several photos of himself on his Instagram account. The images showed him playing basketball and enjoying his time during the offseason. However, his post’s caption, “This ain’t no 💩, but I’m a Klover boy.🍀” contained a grammatical error that caught Doncic’s attention.
Doncic, who will break many NBA records as per Patrick Beverley, took the opportunity to entertain his fans and playfully teased his teammate, Lively. The Slovenian basketball player humorously commented, “Lover* time to learn English!” in response to Lively’s post, showcasing his lighthearted personality and camaraderie with his teammates.
The players made great efforts in the postseason for the Mavericks. During the 2024 NBA Playoffs, Lively averaged 7.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 21 games. Meanwhile, Doncic delivered several dominating performances in the postseason, averaging 28.9 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 8.1 assists in 22 games.
Austin Rivers Explores Key Improvements Doncic Should Focus
Last season, Doncic showcased an exceptional display of dominating skills on the court. Despite this, the 25-year-old narrowly missed out on clinching the NBA MVP honor at the conclusion of the season. This has sparked widespread concern among NBA analysts, fans, and players, who have been closely analyzing the impact of Doncic’s performance.
In a recent episode of the Ringer NBA podcast, former Minnesota Timberwolves player Austin Rivers joined podcast host Pausha Haghighi to discuss the specific steps and improvements that Doncic needs to make to increase his chances of winning the MVP award in the upcoming NBA season.

“For Luka to win, it’s a very simple solution. You just have to be a top seed. If we would’ve known you would’ve been on the finals run last year, if we gave that as the end of the season award, he would’ve won MVP.” Rivers said.
The next season will begin in a few days, and there are high expectations for the Mavericks as they have acquired Klay Thompson in the offseason to form a dominating trio with Doncic and Kyrie Irving.
