Following an incredible effort in Game 5 of their first-round playoff series against the Los Angeles Clippers, Luka Doncic showed profound appreciation for Derrick Jones Jr. In their 123-93 victory last night, Jones, who is enjoying the finest season of his career, scored 12 points.
Derrick Jones Jr. scored in double figures for the fourth straight game. He needs one more game to tie his career-long run of five games, which he achieved during the regular season this year.
After the game, Jones addressed the media about his outstanding performance and reflected on his status as an undrafted athlete. “I was undrafted. I went into situations where I wasn’t supposed to be on the roster or playing… I fought my way into a roster spot and I fought my way into the rotation.” Jones said.
“Very very underrated” Luka Doncic reacted to Jones’s statement. At the Crypto.com Arena, Kyrie Irving, Derrick Jones Jr., Maxi Kleber, and Dereck Lively II all scored double digits, showcasing the strength of the Dallas Mavericks’ supporting cast.
