The Mavericks are in the conference finals for the 2nd time in 3 seasons after beating the OKC Thunder 117-116 in a nerve-wracking game 6. While they didn’t make it to the NBA Finals in 2022, this time they’d hope to go all the way, which can ultimately decide billionaire Mark Cuban’s expenditure.
The last time the Dallas Mavericks lifted the trophy in 2011, Cuban was the majority owner of the franchise. While things have changed in the last 13 years with him being a minority owner, his passion for the team hasn’t petered out a bit. During a recent episode of the Warriors star Draymond Green’s the “Draymond Green Show”, Cuban looked back on the aftermath of the win and said, “I took that trophy everywhere man. I never had to buy a drink for another year.” (After 40:34)
He mentioned that he even received warm receptions outside of Dallas due to the fact they beat the Heat, who were at the time a hated franchise throughout the country. Winning the championship and the wild celebration that followed was a stress-release process for Cuban more than anything else, as he stated. He expressed how he wants to feel that rush of adrenaline once again with the parades and the frenzy that ensues after winning the title of the best team in the land. His devotion to the franchise is not only limited in his words but is also evident on game days when he’s always seen with the team, cheering them on and even joining in at the post-game locker room celebrations.
Mark Cuban Celebrates With Kyrie Irving and Co. After Mavs Win
With only 2.5 seconds left on the clock and the Mavs trailing by a point, PJ Washington drew a foul from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. As the crowd waited in anticipation, Washington sank two free throws to give Dallas the lead. As the clock expired after his third shot rebounded out, a huge roar drowned the American Airlines Center with frantic celebrations breaking out on the court.
Mark Cuban was in the thick of things, and he was omnipresent even when the celebration headed to the locker room. In a viral footage circulating on social media, an emotional Kyrie Irving is seen giving an inspiring post-game speech and one doesn’t have to be an eagle-eyed one to spot the Mavs minority owner in the frame.

But for Cuban and Co., it’ll be a few long hours of wait as only after the game between the Timberwolves and the Nuggets, will they find out who they have to beat for Cuban to relive that wild night of June 12, 2011.
