The sports fans of the US are currently getting treated to some exciting news about their favorite players. After NFL quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ surprising involvement in RFK Jr.’s campaign, Stephen Curry stirred the pot with his wish to join politics after his retirement from the NBA. A well-known name from the NBA fraternity has topped the Golden State Warriors star.
That person is none other than Johnny Buss, who is concentrating on his political career. But there has been a mixed reception to the news that has circulated around the NBA community in the past few hours.
Johnny Buss announces his run for president
Johnny Buss has surprised many by joining the fray with his announcement for the 2024 presidential election. The Lakers co-owner and brother to Lakers chief Jeanie Buss, has announced his candidacy for the Independent.
A website has been launched to promote the campaign, which greets its visitors with the following: “America’s future is built on equity, sustainability, and education. Join Johnny Buss in building a brighter America for all.”
Johnny Buss is known to most Lakers fans for being the eldest son of late Lakers owner Dr. Jerry Buss. The 67-year-old has previous experience acting as the president but only for a basketball team, the Los Angeles Sparks. Apart from leading the WNBA team, Johnny had experience with front-office work for the Los Angeles Lazers, an indoor soccer team. But the challenge Jerry Buss’ eldest son is now facing is completely different from running a team.
Fans point out Buss’ inability to run Los Angeles franchise
After the news of Johnny Buss’ presidential run broke, the quick-witted NBA fans jumped on the occasion to provide their two cents on the matter. After the fans showed their disapproval of Lakers’ Prime move, it did not take much time for the gold and purple faithful to turn on the candidate. Another one commented, “Not a soul is voting for a dude that chose to have LeBron James coached by Darwin Ham,” noting the lack of front-office decision-making on the Lakers HC.
While expressing his concern, someone wrote, “Imagine one of the buss family members running a whole country (skull emojis).”
A few Lakers fans expressed their displeasure over the supporting crew to LeBron James. One of them wrote, “If he got lebron more help this past offseason I would of voted for him.”
“Fire Ham and you got my vote“, a fan declared the exact way to earn his vote is by firing Lakers HC.
While the fans might not be fans of the candidate due to far and few successes of late, come November, the scene can be completely different if the Lakers do something unbelievable in the postseason.
