Bronny James, the eldest son of NBA superstar LeBron James, is already making a name for himself in the sports memorabilia market, even before he plays in a regular season game. His game-worn Los Angeles Lakers jersey from the NBA Summer League recently sold for a remarkable amount at auction, highlighting the excitement around his upcoming career.
The jersey, a bright purple and gold uniform top, was sold for over $38,000 during a Sotheby’s auction. Bronny wore this jersey during the Lakers’ July 12 game against the Houston Rockets at the Las Vegas Summer League. In that match, he scored eight points, grabbed five rebounds, and made two steals despite his team losing 99-80 to the Rockets.
David Kohler, a well-known collector of Lakers memorabilia and the founder of SCP Auctions, bought the jersey for $38,400. TMZ Sports identified Kohler as the buyer. Kohler has what he calls the “Lakers Shrine,” claiming to have the largest collection of Lakers memorabilia in the world.

Kohler told TMZ Sports that he bought Bronny’s jersey because of its significant role in Lakers history. He will add this jersey to his large collection, which he has been building for over 45 years. His collection includes famous items like LeBron James’ first Lakers jersey and the rim from the game in February 2023, when LeBron broke the NBA scoring record with his 38,388th point.
According to Will Stern from cllct media, Kohler’s collection also has playbooks from the Lakers’ 2020 championship season, along with personal items like the wrist cast worn by Kobe Bryant during his rookie year in 1996-97, and even glasses used by Lakers legend George Mikan during his time with the team from 1947 to 1958.

The Lakers open the regular season on October 22 against the Timberwolves, which adds to the excitement surrounding Bronny’s debut. Selected as the 55th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, Bronny will join his father, LeBron, in hopes of leading the team to another NBA championship.
