According to Senior NBA Insider Sam Amick at The Athletic, recent reports suggest that the Los Angeles Lakers are close to rejecting a trade deal involving promising young star Austin Reaves for Dejounte Murray. The Lakers are not interested in trading Reaves for Murray, and it was mentioned that if the Lakers had been willing to include Reaves in the trade, they could have acquired Murray at the February trade deadline.
“Murray, meanwhile, was a player that the Lakers could have had at the February trade deadline if they’d been willing to put Reaves into the deal. He’s a possibility now, as well, but league sources say the Lakers’ stance on Reaves remains the same.” Amick wrote in his latest report.
Reaves’ four-year, $53.8 million contract is considered one of the NBA’s best Contracts. He has two seasons remaining on his contract, which means the team has young talent on the line. However, he will likely become a free agent after two seasons.
Reaves Snubs Detroit Pistons, Chooses Two-Way Contract with LA Lakers in 2021 NBA Draft Twist
Reaves declined the 42nd overall pick from the Detroit Pistons in the 2021 NBA draft. Instead, he opted to sign a two-way contract with the Los Angeles Lakers on August 3, 2021. After just one month, he signed a standard NBA contract. Following his joining of the Lakers, Reaves delivered impressive back-to-back performances for the team. One notable performance was when he scored an impressive 35 points, along with six rebounds and six assists, against the Orlando Magic on March 19, 2023.
During the 2023-24 season, he consistently supported his team throughout the season. However, the Lakers fell short in the first-round playoff series against the Denver Nuggets and were eliminated. According to StatMuse, Reaves averaged 15.9 points, 5.5 assists, and 4.3 rebounds in 82 games this season.
The 2024 NBA draft is approaching, and the Los Angeles Lakers are ready to make roster changes. They have also recently announced the new head coach, who will lead the team to more tremendous success next season.
