The Los Angeles Lakers are off to a rocky start in the 2024 NBA preseason. They lost their opening two games but clinched a victory on Thursday against the Milwaukee Bucks. The Purple and Gold franchise stayed relatively inactive in the summer.
Their two most significant moves were JJ Redick’s appointment as the head coach and LeBron James’ son Bronny’s selection in the NBA Draft. However, the Lakers would require much more to become the championship contenders this season.
The recent ESPN power rankings have placed JJ Redick’s Lakers among the lowest-ranked teams to win the NBA championship. The Lakers are placed 13th of 16 teams, having just a 1.5% chance of winning the NBA championship and a 4.0% chance of reaching the Finals.
The trading will continue till February 2025, and the Lakers must make moves to become championship contenders. Bleacher Report’s Andy Bailey recently proposed a new blockbuster three-team trade deal, including the Lakers, the New Orleans Pelicans, and the Chicago Bulls. While the Pelicans’ situation with Brandon Ingram seems unclear, the Bulls seek a complete rebuild.
Brandon Ingram’s contract with the Pelicans expires at the end of the season, and the team has a void in the center position after Jonas Valanciunas’ free agency exit. Meanwhile, the Bulls, who traded star players DeMar DeRozan and Alex Caruso, have Zach LaVine as their biggest star.
Los Angeles Lakers Receive Zach LaVine In Three-Team Trade Proposal
Andy Bailey proposed a blockbuster trade that would move Zach LaVine to Los Angeles for D’Angelo Russell, Jalen Hood-Schifino, a 2029 and 2031 first-round pick. The Lakers will also receive second-round pick Antonio Reeves from the Pelicans, who would acquire Rui Hachimura, Cam Reddish, and Jaxson Hayes from the Lakers.

As part of the three-team trade, the Bulls receive Brandon Ingram from New Orleans for Chris Duarte and a 2031 first-round pick. Additionally, the Pelicans will receive Rui Hachimura, Cam Reddish, and Jaxson Hayes.
The trade proposal looks interesting on paper. The Lakers’ star duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis would get huge support in the offense without losing their star guard, Austin Reaves. Following their playoff disappointment last season, the Lakers will look to make a championship run this time.
