According to recent reports by NBA Insider for the Athletics, Shams Charania, the frontrunner for the Los Angeles Lakers’ head coaching position, has been decided. After being eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Denver Nuggets, the Lakers fired their coaching staff, including head coach Darvin Ham.
The team is now searching for a new coach who can improve its performance. However, their search has come to an end, and the Lakers have finally chosen the top candidates for the position. Charania mentioned that the Lakers have chosen JJ Redick as the frontrunner for the franchise’s next head coach.
“The Los Angeles Lakers are zeroing in on JJ Redick as the front-runner to be the franchise’s next head coach, league and media industry sources told The Athletic. No final decision has been made yet, and the Lakers still have steps remaining in their head-coaching search process, league sources said. But the indications are strong that Redick is their leading choice at this stage.” Charania Wrote.
Charania further mentioned that in addition to Redick, the Lakers will also keep an eye on former Charlotte Hornets head coach James Borrego. He stated that Redick would be the first to meet the Lakers directly, and Borrego’s chances of getting the position would be based on his relationship with power forward Anthony Davis.
Lakers Statement Expected After Reddick’s Broadcasting Work
The chances of Redick being selected are higher because of his relationship with the star player LeBron James. According to Charania, the Lakers are searching for someone who can lead the locker room, hold players accountable, tirelessly gameplan, and provide structure and organization. James has a great rapport with Redick as they co-host Redick’s ‘Mind the Game’ podcast. In a recent episode of the podcast, Redick and James discussed the challenges faced by the WNBA sensation Caitlin Clark after her debut in the WNBA.
Redick is set to commentate on the NBA finals, where the Dallas Mavericks will face the Boston Celtics. According to Charania, if the Lakers hire Redick as their head coach, they will issue a statement after he completes his broadcasting duties.
