Lonzo Ball is finally doing what people have been hoping he would do ever since he got drafted to the Los Angeles Lakers.
When Lonzo Ball declared for the NBA Draft in 2017, he gave full control to his father, LaVar Ball, to oversee all business matters while he focused on preparing for life in the NBA.
It turned out that it wasn’t the best decision for him at all.
Now, that’s he’s been traded from the Lakers to the Pelicans, things have changed. During the most recent episode of “The Woj Pod,” Lonzo said that he’s taken all aspects of his personal and professional life into his own hands.
“My dad has always been talking my whole life. It’s nothing different to me,” Zo says.
“I think what makes it easier is that I’m controlling everything now. You really can’t tell me what to do. This is my life, my career. I’m making all the decisions now. I chose to go to CAA. I just think me becoming my own man is going to make it easier, honestly.”

Lonzo also stated he gave the same advice to LaMelo Ball, who might be getting drafted somewhere in the top 3 in the 2020 NBA Draft.
“I told him, make sure he takes control of his career. Now,” Lonzo said. “Don’t wait like I did. Hopefully that helps him. He seems like he’s taking it all in. I’m excited for him.”
He also expressed some regrets for not taking meetings with shoe brands like Nike and Adidas, and instead trying to go with the family business.
Zo spoke on that infamous footage of LaVar referring to him as ‘damaged goods.’
“It’s part of life. I’m growing up. He has his ways, I have mine. We just got into it. That’s what fathers and sons do. As time goes on, at the end of the day, it’s always love. I know he loves me. I love him.”
