Following his draft announcement, one after the other, things are getting set up at the LA Lakers for LeBron James’ eldest son, Bronny. The latest is his jersey number. The youngster cannot continue his No. 6 jersey from USC anymore, as his superstar father is his rightful owner in the Purple and Gold. So, the franchise gave him the number 9. As soon as the news broke out, one of the Lakers’ own, Nick Van Exel, who donned the number from 1993 to 1998, reacted to the new update.
Showing his support on X (formerly known as Twitter), the former player wrote, “Let’s gooooooo!!!!!!!” While many have been critical about the move, Nick Van gave his approval.
After playing for five seasons with the franchise, the former guard knows the challenges Bronny will face. So, he showcased his optimism and tried to boost the 19-year-old guard.
LeBron is quite thrilled about Bronny wearing the Purple and Gold jersey. The 39-year-old proudly shares pictures of every exciting news related to Bronny on his Instagram story. The father-son duo will soon create history in the Lakers’ colors.
Analyst Reveals Other Teams Were Also Eyeing Bronny James
While many were convinced that the Lakers would be going back home with Bronny James, other franchises also had their eyes on LeBron’s son.
The revelation was made in “First Things First” by Chris Broussard. “There were four teams outside of the Lakers that had legitimate interest in taking Bronny,” spilled the analyst.

Disclosing the names, Broussard added, “The Clippers, the Timberwolves – which was not as bad of a situation for him, I know they drafted a young point guard too before him – the Suns, but they wanted it because of LeBron and the Raptors.” However, it was due to LeBron’s agent Rich Paul, the other franchises backed off. Paul reportedly spread the word that if anyone other than the Lakers drafted Bronny then he would leave for Australia and play there.
Nevertheless, the former USC guard was selected by his desired team, so he can now start preparing for the upcoming challenges in the league.
