Some 24 hours after a seemingly false report of Colin Kaepernick demanding $20 million to play in the Alliance of American Football league, the announcement came down that Kaepernick and a former teammate, Eric Reid, had reached a surprise legal settlement with the NFL, which they had accused of colluding to keep them out of the league.
In a joint statement issued on Friday afternoon, the league and the players’ lawyers said that “the parties have decided to resolve the pending grievances” and that “there will be no further comment.”
Reports soon surfaced that Kaepernick may have received upwards of $80 million to drop the suit and go away.
On Saturday, reporters asked Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James about the settlement and he stated how he stood and kneeled with anything Kaepernick does. He also hope the former 49ers QB got a bunch of money from the league as well.
“I stand with Kaep. I kneel with Kaep… I’m happy he won his suit. I hope he got a hell of a lot of money to set his family up for a long time.”
