Rich Paul recently appeared on the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast, where co-host Gillie Da Kid mentioned Michael Beasley as a player expected to be in the NBA today.
Rich Paul acknowledged Beasley’s immense talent but noted that people often question his professionalism. “Michael Beasley is probably one of the most talented guys to ever touch a basketball,” Paul said. “But talent also has to be able to value infrastructure too.“
Paul also highlighted how the NBA now looks at talent differently. He said, “Yesterday, I looked for talent, high-level talent. Today, high-level character and talent because as you guys know, the professional aspect of this whole thing is so important, man.”
Michael Beasley’s career has faced challenges due to questions about his professionalism and off-court issues. Paul mentioned, “In most cases, it’s because while they were there and the talent was here (gestures upward) they disregarded the professionalism.”

Beasley last played in the NBA for the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2018-19 season. He joined the Los Angeles Clippers in a trade that season but left just days later.

Even though it seemed like Michael Beasley’s NBA career might be over, he got another chance when the Brooklyn Nets signed him as a substitute player in 2020. Sadly, he tested positive for COVID-19 before he could play, causing the team to cancel his contract. This made it harder for him to return to the league.
Interestingly, Beasley seems unsure why he hasn’t been in the NBA for so long. In an interview with The Boston Globe last year, he said, “If I had to answer that question [why I’m not in the league], I would have solved it a long time ago.” This shows a gap between how Beasley views his career and the reasons affecting it.
Despite not being in the NBA, Michael Beasley has stayed in shape and performed well in other leagues. He was recently named the BIG3 Most Valuable Player for 2024, showing that he still has the talent and fitness to compete at a high level, even outside of the NBA.
