It was reported earlier in the week that LeBron James and Anthony Davis were getting new ink to pay homage to Kobe Bryant who tragically lost his life alongside his daughter and seven others in a horrific helicopter crash.
Hours before the Lakers first game since the tragedy, LeBron took to Instagram to unveil a new tribute tattoo to Kobe.
It features a Black mamba snake coiled around the numbers 24 and 8. If you look closer, you’ll see that the 2 & 4 are separated. The #2 was Gianna’s jersey number. “Mamba 4 Life” is written in cursive underneath the snake.
Kobe created his on-the-court persona, “Black Mamba” in an effort to separate his personal life from his basketball career.
“The name [Kobe Bryant] just evokes such a negative emotion,” Bryant told the New Yorker in 2014.
“I said, ‘If I create this alter ego, so now when I play this is what’s coming out of your mouth, it separates the personal stuff, right?’ You’re not watching David Banner — you’re watching the Hulk,” he added.
