LeBron James and his son Bronny James made history on Sunday night by playing together for the first time as teammates. The preseason game between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Phoenix Suns was a huge moment for the James family and the basketball fans. The Lakers star forward shared a perfect reaction on social media following the historic night with his son.
LeBron, who will turn 40 in December, had a strong performance against the Suns. Despite scoring 19 points, grabbing 5 rebounds, and making 4 assists in just 16 minutes, along with two blocks, the Lakers lost 118-114. On the other hand, Bronny played for 13 minutes and recorded a couple of rebounds.
After the game, LeBron tweeted, “WOW THAT WAS SURREAL!” and expressed pride in Bronny’s progress toward his NBA debut in three weeks. In the postgame interview, LeBron James reflected on the importance of sharing this experience: “For someone who didn’t have a dad growing up, to be able to have that influence on your kids… then ultimately, to be able to work with your son, I think it’s one of the greatest things that a father could ever hope for or wish for.”
The Lakers picked Bronny as the No. 55 overall in June, while LeBron is preparing for his 22nd NBA season. Lakers coach JJ Redick commented, “I think it speaks to LeBron’s certainly longevity but also his competitive stamina, that he is able to still be doing this in Year 22.“
He continued, “It speaks to the work that Bronny has put in to get to this point. And really just the fatherly care and love and certainly the motherly care from Savannah (James) as well. Bronny is such a great kid, and he’s a pleasure to be around.”
LeBron James’ Confident About Bronny’s Growth Amid The Lakers’ Preseason Challenges
LeBron had already expressed his happiness about watching Bronny in the preseason. He told the reporters on Friday that he believes his son will eventually adapt to the professional level. “Every rank that you climb is always an adjustment to get used to it. So when he went to middle school to high school to USC and now to the pros, it’s always an adjustment he makes,” LeBron said.

LeBron noted that Bronny will keep improving as he spends more time playing with professionals. He mentioned Bronny missing most of his last college basketball season after suffering a cardiac arrest. Despite losing almost a third of the season, LeBron believed Bronny has improved every day and continues to put in the work.
The Lakers have four more preseason games ahead, and they’ll be eager to bounce back after starting 0-2. The team focuses on regrouping and finding their rhythm as they prepare for their next preseason game. The Purple and Gold will face the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday.
