Since joining LeBron James in 2019, Anthony Davis has been a cornerstone of the Los Angeles Lakers’ success. As the Lakers opened this season with back-to-back wins, Davis’ performance has been outstanding as he propelled the team to a 2-0 start for the first time in 14 years.
With standout stats in both games, Davis seems to be embracing his role as a driving force on the court. During an interview with ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, LeBron shared Davis’s importance to the team’s strategy, especially in this new season.
“It’s very important that he’s the main focal point for us every single night. We know what he’s going to do defensively, but offensively, we have to find him in multiple places on the floor throughout the whole game. And we’ve done that through two games,” James said.
In the Lakers season opener game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, AD notched 36 points, 16 rebounds, and 4 assists. He then contributed 35 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists in the Lakers’ second victory over the Phoenix Suns. After seeing his dominance, Gilbert Arenas labeled him a greater Lakers man than Pau Gasol.
JJ Redick Praises Anthony Davis’ Early Dominance
For the first time in 13 years, the Los Angeles Lakers have opened their season with a 2-0 record. Like James, coach JJ Redick also credited AS for the milestones, praising him for his critical role on the court.
“There’s an intentionality to have [Davis] involved as much as possible. We recognize what type of player he is and that he can create mismatches,” Redick said to ESPN.

“There’s a comfort level and a confidence level that he has that, if the game starts getting wacky, he knows the ball is going to come back to him.The ball is going to find him,” he added.
The Lakers next game is against the Sacramento Kings. Davis is expected to play a crucial role in this game as well to improve the Lakers’ stats.
