Lakers ace LeBron James has overtaken NBA legends Larry Bird and Magic Johnson with his remarkable new record. The Lakers star is considered one of the greatest players ever to play the game. Now he has ascended his ranking as probably the number one to play the game.
James has often been in talks for the greatest of all time in the NBA. He is mentioned alongside names like Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, and Magic Johnson. However, with his recent achievements, he has put himself ahead of the aforementioned players.
LeBron James has more points than Larry Bird and Magic Johnson Combined
Lakers star LeBron James recently hit the 40,000 career points mark on Saturday in his match against the Denver Nuggets. Last year, he surpassed Lakers and NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and became the league’s leading scorer. Later in the same year, he set a new record by becoming the first player to score 39,000 points in the league. Last Saturday, he surpassed his own record and became the only player to have 40,000 points in the league.
NBA legends Larry Bird and Magic Johnson are a few of the players who are considered to be as great as the legendary Michael Jordan. They have contributed a lot to the game and to their respective franchises, the Lakers and the Celtics have the reputation of powerhouses thanks to Magic and Bird. However, LeBron’s recent feat might embarrass them a little. Bron has more career points than the combined score of Bird and Magic.
Magic has scored 17,707 points in his entire career, while Bird has scored 21,791 points in his entire career. If both of their career points are tallies, it comes down to 39,498, which is still short of King James’ 40K milestone.

LeBron shares his thoughts on becoming the first player with 40K career points
After achieving the milestone, LeBron James did a post-game interview where he expressed his thoughts on becoming the first player to reach the 40K milestone. “Being the first to do something, is pretty cool in this league. Just knowing history, the greats that have come through the league. Then you see some of the greats on floor tonight, it was great to compete,” said Bron during the interview.
LeBron turned 39 years old last year and despite that, he has shown no signs of slowing down. He has been delivering dominant performances week after week for the Lakers. He has been averaging 25.2 points per game, 7.1 rebounds, and 7.9 assists per game. His stats this season are even better than some of the young players in the league. This goes to show how much hard work and dedication the Lakers star puts in his craft.
