LeBron James has made no secret of his ambition to one day own an NBA team, particularly in Las Vegas. Last year, he even made a direct appeal to NBA Commissioner Adam Silver about the possibility of owning an expansion team in the city. Recently, James’ business partner again confirmed that the superstar plans to purchase an NBA team after retiring from playing.
Given the NBA’s long-standing discussions about expanding the league, it seemed like the perfect opportunity for James to achieve his dream. Many anticipated that the league would have expanded by the time James retired, allowing him to become an owner.
However, recent comments from Silver suggest that James’ ambitions might have to be put on hold. While there is interest in expanding the league, Silver clarified that no concrete plans have been set in motion.
“There was not a lot of discussion in this meeting about expansion, but only largely because—not for lack of interest—it’s because we had said to [potential franchise suitors] that we’re not quite ready,” Silver told reporters.
Silver later stated that the logistical challenges of expansion are a significant factor in the delay. Because logistical challenges affect potential new markets and the league’s current financial structure.

“I mean, look, those guys are professionals in every sense of the word. My concern for them about whether or not they’ll be ready to play on Oct. 22 and be in shape, I don’t have that concern,” Redick said.
After last season’s disappointment, LeBron James’ team is ready to turn the wheel this season. Let’s see how the Lakers translate their readiness to a championship-caliber season.
