Normally, news like this would infuriate the Knicks fan base, and while some will still be upset about it, others are just basking in the glory of their current team being succcessful right now.
Vanity Fair’s Lisa Robinson joined Brian Windhorst and Ramona Shelburne on the Brian Windhorst & The Hoop Collective podcast this week and she relayed a story of how LeBron wanted to play in New York, but signed with the Lakers because of his wife.
“We heard that LeBron wanted to come to New York. And I have really good sources about this, that he was thinking about coming to New York but that his wife wanted to be in Los Angeles, wanted the kids to go to school in Los Angeles, and that just kiboshed the whole thing.”
LeBron’s wife, Savannah James, preferring Los Angeles is completely believable. LeBron had been linked to the Lakers years befre his 2018 free agency. It was a foregone conclusion he would be leaving the Cavaliers for a second time, but this time around, the fan knew it and were fine with it after he provided them with a championship like he promised.
The Lakers recently defeated the Warriors to secure their playoff spot as the 7th seed. The Knicks are 4th in the Eastern Conference and open their playoff matchup against the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday.
