The Philadelphia 76ers were sent off on a long vacation by the NY Knicks, who crushed their dream of bagging the championship trophy. Following a disappointing 4-2 playoff series loss, the Sixers look more determined to acquire the trophy next season even if they have to make changes to their roster.
According to Brian Windhorst of ESPN, the Philadelphia franchise is eyeing the Miami Heat’s star forward, Jimmy Butler. Apart from the 34-year-old, Brandon Ingram and Paul George are on their list of priorities for next season.
Butler has averaged 20.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 5 assists per game this regular season. Though his numbers dropped a little, he compensated for it with his experience and skills. Butler shot 49.9% from the floor and 41.4% from the 3-point range.
Despite being a strong competitor in the playoffs, Butler couldn’t help his team as he missed the series due to a knee injury, and they lost by 4-1 to the Boston Celtics. Butler’s injury has also been why he missed a chunk of games in the regular season, especially in December and January.
Butler signed a 3-year contract worth $146.4 million this season, which means that he still has two more comfortable seasons left. However, considering the Sixers’ cap space, the Philadelphia franchise can provide him with a contract that he is waiting to get from Miami.
Jimmy Butler Reportedly Wants Max Extension From Heat
Jimmy Butler is reportedly looking for a $113 million contract extension for two years. But the Miami franchise is not known for negotiating contracts for players of Butler’s age, who will be turning 35 in a couple of months.

With his frequent injuries, it is not sure that he will bring the same efficiency on the plate as he used to in his prime. Though Butler has shown his ruthless side as well, destroying teams on the hardwood, giving Butler $58 million at the age of 38 might not be the best bet for the Heat and that could surely benefit the Sixers if they decide to go gung-ho in the summer.
