The Charlotte Hornets had a disappointing 2023–24 season, and they have been eliminated from the playoff race. They are currently the 13th seed in the Eastern Conference with a record of 18–54.
Their star point guard, LaMelo Ball, got injured early this year and has not played a game since. A recent injury update has given some insights about his injury, and unfortunately, Ball will be out for the remainder of the season.

LaMelo Ball will miss the rest of the season
According to a report issued by Shams Charania from ‘The Athletic’, the all-star point guard will not be able to return to the court this season due to an ankle injury he suffered back in January in a matchup against the Houston Rockets.
His ankle has posed a problem for him since a month before his major injury, as he was sidelined during that time due to an apparent ankle sprain but returned to the court to play seven games before injuring his ankle again.
Having been eliminated from playoff contention, the Hornets only have 10 games remaining for the regular season, so it wouldn’t be much of a gain for the team if Ball returned to the lineup at this point. LaMelo Ball has only played 58 games in the last two seasons.

How was LaMelo injured in the ankle?
LaMelo Ball initially got injured back in 2023 on November 26 against a matchup with the Orlando Magic and remained out for 20 games but returned in January just to get injured again on January 26th with ankle tendinopathy.
His recurring ankle issues have troubled him and his team, as he only appeared in 22 matches this season. This was his second consecutive season, which was cut short due to his injuries. Last season, he only played 36 games, and the Hornets ended their season with a record of 27-55.
This season, Ball averaged 23.9 points per game with 5.1 rebounds and 8 assists in 32.2 minutes of action, shooting 35.5% from beyond the arc, but these averages are only for the 22 games he played this season. He has proven to be a valuable asset for the Hornets and has always produced for his team. We hope to see him back strong next season.
