The Los Angeles Lakers have been facing a rough time recently. After a disappointing season where their hopes for an NBA title were crushed in the first round of the playoffs, they’ve been criticized for their offseason decisions. Many felt the Lakers didn’t do enough to strengthen their roster, as they failed to add any big-name superstars to support LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
Recently, the Lakers faced another blow from a hater on social media. This came after ESPN reported that the Oklahoma City Thunder is prepared to give back the Seattle SuperSonics’ history if the NBA grants Seattle a new team.
“Sources said if a team was to return to Seattle, the Thunder would cede the Seattle history back to the SuperSonics—just as the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets reclaimed the Charlotte-era history of the New Orleans Pelicans when Charlotte switched from being the Bobcats to the Hornets in 2014,” ESPN’s report read.
Following this news, a social media user named Sam LaFrance took the opportunity to call out the Lakers on X. He boldly claimed that the Lakers owe five NBA championships, referencing the time when the Lakers were based in Minneapolis.
“@Lakers you owe Minnesota 5 titles,” LaFrance posted, tagging Lakers’ official page.
The Lakers spent 13 years playing in Minneapolis. In 1960, the team relocated to Los Angeles. The move was partly due to the lack of a stable home court in Minneapolis.
