The Boston Celtics continued their dominance over the Dallas Mavericks in Game 3 of the NBA Finals, taking a 3-0 lead. Despite the Boston forwards Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown contributing massive numbers in the offense, Derrick White grabbed the attention of the legendary Magic Johnson.
Following the Celtics’ 106-99 victory, Johnson took to his X (FKA Twitter) handle to state, “Jaylen Brown took over in the second half tonight, scoring 24 of his 30 points to lead the Celtics to victory! Jayson Tatum finally played his game with a 31-point performance, but the unsung hero of the Celtics was Derrick White!”
Tatum finally got to silence his doubters by scoring a team-high 31 points, while Brown didn’t lag with his 30-point contribution. Although Derrick White didn’t put up as many numbers as the other two, he provided the vital support the team needed in the crucial stage of Wednesday night’s game.
White started with a 3-pointer in the second quarter and finished the night with 16 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 key blocks while shooting 4-of-10 from the floor and 4-of-9 from the threes.
He has been impressive throughout the playoffs and has stepped up whenever the team needed him. While knowing the secret behind his success is hard, his trainer spilled it in front of the world.

Mason disclosed, “Derrick is a guy that in 16 years he’s only canceled one workout since seventh grade. He goes on average five to six days a week, and sometimes he does two-a-days. But he doesn’t miss.”
The trainer further added, “You’re never going to hear Derrick say, ‘Oh, I was skiing one weekend or I went deep sea fishing or I went shopping.’ That’s not Derrick White. He always reserves time to be in the gym. Those hours he’s put in have allowed him to catch and surpass some of his peers.”
Mason also highlighted how White’s focus and years of commitment improved his skills, making him an integral part of the Celtics squad.
The franchise has secured three wins, putting them in a comfortable position in the NBA Finals Series. Now, they need one more to bag their 18th championship trophy and establish their undisputed dominance in the league.
