Apparently, the Lakers had an offer that would have allowed them to move on from Russell Westbrook.
It has never been a secret that the lakers have tried and still want to rid themselves of Russell Westbrook.
During a Twitter thread on Tuesday, Utah Jazz insider Tony Jones of The Athletic said that the Jazz were willing to give Mike Conley, Rudy Gay and Bojan Bogdanovic along with a 2023 first-rounder in exchange for Westbrook and two Lakers first-round picks.
The Lakers didn’t pull the trigger on the deal since they didn’t want to part ways with both of their 2027 and 2029 picks. The teammay be very bad around that time, so those picks are very valuable.
The first game of the season was a big fail for the Lakers, with the Golden State Warriors dominating them on the way to a 123-109 win.
Westbrook got the start against the Warriors. He posted 19 points (7-12 FG), 11 rebounds, three assists, and four turnovers in 31 minutes.

Despite his performance, Westbrook was complaining after the game. Westbrook said he “absolutely” believes that Los Angeles Lakers coach Darvin Ham’s decision to bring him off the bench in L.A.’s preseason finale could have caused the hamstring strain he suffered that night.
“I’ve been doing the same thing for 14 years straight,” Westbrook said following the Lakers’ 123-109 loss to the Golden State Warriors in their regular-season opener Tuesday night. “Honestly, I didn’t even know what to do pregame. Being honest, I was trying to figure out how to stay warm and loose. … That’s something I just wasn’t accustomed to.”
Davis said after the game that Westbrook’s bench role against the Kings was merely experimentation.
“I don’t think he was ever out of [the starting group],” Davis said. “I think it was a look [at a different rotation] in Sac.”
