Los Angeles Lakers legend LeBron James is about to begin his 22nd NBA season with some key milestones ahead. James extended his stay with the Lakers this offseason by signing a two-year contract. As he has reached the twilight of his career, conversations about his potential retirement have been a hot topic for several seasons.
ESPN’s Dave McMenamin recently shared his thoughts on how LeBron’s career might conclude during an appearance in the NBA on ESPN. According to McMenamin, there’s no immediate reason to believe James is nearing retirement, even if the Lakers face struggles this season.
“I wouldn’t start looking at like this is going to be the clock is starting to tick down on his career, where he would walk away from the Lakers and retire because they had struggled throughout the season,” McMenamin said.
“He’s gonna be on his own timeline, and I think when it’s the final march of LeBron, perhaps final march rather than last dance, we’re all gonna know. It’s gonna be must-see TV. It’s gonna be the LeBron tour coming to town throughout the 28 NBA cities, culminating in a spectacular farewell,” he added.
Jeanie Buss Praises LeBron James as Lakers’ Leader and Role Model
Lakers owner Jeanie Buss has always trusted LeBron James since he joined the team. In a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, Buss spoke about James’ immense impact on the Lakers organization.
“He consistently delivers. He puts in the work. He’s not only a worldwide brand, but he is our leader. He’s the captain of our team and he sets the tone, sets the pace by putting in the hard work,” Buss said.

“Nobody can complain about the work if you see somebody with his resume and his longevity of career, nobody can complain about having to practice if he’s willing to do it. And he does. He just amazes me. I don’t know what else to say,” she added.
The Lakers last won an NBA title in 2020. With LeBron leading the way once again, they will kick off their pre-season on October 4 against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
