Ranking NBA players across generations has become a national pastime. Everyone loves to do it, and everyone loves to talk about it. Is LeBron James number one? Or is it Michael Jordan? Where does Kareem Abdul-Jabar stand in the conversation? Is Wilt Chamberlain a top 5 player all-time?
How about Kobe Bryant? Is he top 5?
While many choose to place Kobe in their personal top 5’s, one many doesn’t even believe he’s a top 5 Lakers all-time. Among them is former NBA guard Jason Williams, aka “White Chocolate.”
During an appearance on the Players Choice podcast, Williams and the other guests were talking about where they rank Kobe on the NBA’s all-time list. And while Chltwn32 had him at 11 all-time (which is respectable), White Chocolate said he has Kobe a lot lower than most people while questioning whether he’s even a top 5 Lakers all-time.
In all fairness to Williams, the Lakers do have plenty of players who are justifiably considered candidates for the NBA’s top 10 all-time list. We’re talking guys like Kareem, Magic Johnson, Wilt, Shaq, LeBron James, Jerry West and Elgin Baylor.
That’s an impressive list right there, no doubt about it. But are you telling me at least five of those guys deserve to be ranked ahead of Kobe as better Lakers players?

Lakers fans certainly didn’t agree. And they wasted little time letting Williams know about it:
