The 2019 NBA free agent class was viewed as one of the strongest ever, but many still believe it will be outdone by the ridiculously stacked free agent class of 2021, which includes 2019 NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo.
The Los Angeles Lakers failed to attract any of the big name free agents this time around, but they’re already doing their best to make sure that doesn’t happen again two years from now. And their latest signing is proof of that.
According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the Lakers have claimed Kostas Antetokounmpo, brother of Giannis, off free agent waivers.
Signing big name players is the most common tactic used by NBA teams to entice other superstars to join their club, but signing a player’s siblings may be an even better ploy, as it usually comes at a much cheaper price.
Giannis has two brothers in the NBA at the moment, with his older brother, Thanasis, currently on the Milwaukee Bucks roster.
As for the Lakers, well, it’s quite clear what their motive is here. Even Twitter appears to be on to them:
