Kyrie Irving recently made major headlines once again. He forced his way off yet another NBA team, demanding to be traded from Brooklyn and getting his way when he got shipped off to the Dallas Mavericks.
This week, he is making waves in a different sport after footage surfaced of the Dallas Mavericks point guard running routes on the football field and looking quite impressive doing it.
NBA free agency is right around the corner, set to kick off on Friday, June 30. The Dallas Mavericks’ biggest priority this summer is re-signing Kyrie Irving.
The Mavericks were on tap to head into the playoffs last year before they acquired Irving, but would finish the year 38-44 and miss out on the postseason.
The Mavericks may be the only team interested in signing Irving this offseason, according to NBA insider Marc Stein. The Los Angeles Lakers don’t plan to pursue the Duke product and the Phoenix Suns can no longer sign Irving after they traded Chris Paul for Bradley Beal.
The Houston Rockets could make a run at Irving if former MVP James Harden stays with the Philadelphia 76ers. However, All-Star point guard Fred VanVleet may rank higher than Irving on the Rockets’ free-agent board.
