Kyrie Irving has been trended on social media for the past hour due to his comments about the NBA restarting the 2019-2020 season.
Kyrie Irving has become the face of the resistance against restarting the NBA season after he led a conference call on Friday consisting of over 80 players from both the NBA and WNBA, and according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, became the first superstar to directly voice his opposition to restarting the season at Disney. “I don’t support going into Orlando,” Irving reportedly said. “I’m not with the systematic racism and the bulls–t. Something smells a little fishy.”
Charania also reports that Irving claimed he is “willing to give up everything” for social justice reform.
Other players that spoke up about potentially sitting out at Disney were Donovan Mitchell, Carmelo Anthony and Dwight Howard.
The WNBA players on the call vowed to support whatever the NBA players decide, according to Yahoo Sports’ Chris Haynes.
