In Game 2 of the NBA Finals series, the Dallas Mavericks lost to the Boston Celtics with a score of 98-105. This marks the Mavericks’ second consecutive loss, and the Celtics now lead the series 2-0.
During the post-game press conference, Dallas guard Kyrie Irving spoke about the team’s back-to-back road losses to the Celtics, putting them at a 0-2 deficit. The 32-year-old Mavericks guard mentioned that he had faced a similar situation before in his career, but this time, it was the hardest thing he had ever encountered.
“They feel very confident here. They’ve been a great team all year… Being in the Finals before, down 0-2, I’ve had a little experience in this… It is gonna be a possession-by-possession thing. It is gonna be the hardest thing that we’ve ever done.” Irving said.
Both Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic Shoulder the Blame for the Defeat
Irving finished the game with 16 points, six assists, and two rebounds, while star player Luka Doncic scored 32 points, 11 assists, and 11 rebounds during his 42 minutes of the game. Despite giving a fantastic performance in game 2, Doncic took the blame for the loss in a post-game interview.
However, Irving later corrected his statement by adding his name to the conversation. Irving mentioned that Doncic was emotional after the loss and wanted to play better in the next game. He further noted that he felt the same as Doncic and took responsibility for the two straight losses.
“He’s not alone, and we are going to tell him that; he’s spilling into his emotions and feels like he could play better, just like me. I would take the brunt of the responsibility. The first two games weren’t the best for me.” Irving added.

Before Game 2 started, the jumbotron showed a photo of Irving and his post-Game One news conference statement, “I thought it was gonna be a little louder in here.” The statement was aimed at the supporters of his old club.
The Mavericks must-win Game 3, scheduled for Wednesday at the American Airlines Center, to alleviate pressure in the following games.
