Kyrie Irving is back in the news this week, and it’s not about his spectacular play on the court since returning to the team.
The Brooklyn Nets star, who is known for many controversial statements, took to Instagram to state that a silhouette of Kobe Bryant should replace Jerry West as the NBA’s official logo.
“Gotta happen, idc what anyone says. BLACK KINGS BUILT THE LEAGUE,” Irving wrote. Carmelo Anthony responded with a comment on Instagram, saying that the change is “only right.”
Many petitions had been created to change the logo to Kobe in the days after his death, but nothing has come of them.
The NBA will pay tribute to Bryant during the upcoming All-Star game.
