Following Monday night’s historic win that made the Celtics the undisputed kings of the land, Kristaps Porzingis talked about his troubles with injury. The former Wizards center picked up an injury in game 2 of the NBA Finals series and missed two consecutive games.
In the post-game press conference, Porzingis shed light on it and said, “Somehow I got it going for this game. A lot of it was for sure the adrenaline from playing at the Garden… having that opportunity to close it out.”
His return to the team in game 5 was crucial to the Celtics’ success. Porzingis’ absence in games 3 and 4 was evident as the Mavs almost pulled off a comeback win while demolishing the visitors in the latter one.
In the 16 minutes he played in game 5, Porzingis added 5 points and grabbed a rebound. Al Horford plugged the Kristaps-sized gap, showing their resilience and unity. This was Porzingis’ first taste of the NBA Championship, and the 28-year-old couldn’t have been more delighted.
Kristaps Porzingis Talks About Championship Winning Feeling
In the final question of the post-game press conference, Porzingis was asked about his current feelings compared to the ones he envisioned about lifting the Larry O’Brien trophy. Porzingis’ answer couldn’t have been more truthful as he opened the gate of his caged feelings.
“I don’t know how to answer it yet, to be honest,” said the former Mavs C. “I think I’m going to need a little bit of time and then I can kind of reflect. Because right now I’m just so in the moment and enjoying this.”

He further added, “It’s just a special team and everybody gave whatever they could for us to get here. And right now, we’re just so in a moment. And I think once I’m back home and everything settles, I’ll be able to compare it better.”
After Friday’s victory parade, Porzingis will undergo surgery to fix his “rare” left leg injury and will be sidelined for a few months. This certainly is not good news for the Latvian basketball team as they go into the Olympic qualifying tournament next month.
A prolonged break could do a world of good for Porzingis, and the Celtics will certainly hope for that as they’ll be aiming to defend the title next season.
