Everything the New York Knicks have done this offseason to make things go down the tank, they have certainly done it and continue to strike out at every turn.
Upon missing out on signing Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, the franchise had the chance to nab another star in Kawhi Leonard, but they would decide to back out of the meeting with the reigning NBA Finals MVP for the dumbest reason ever.
Via NY Post:
“According to a source, Leonard agreed to meet with the Knicks, but not until Wednesday after finishing with the Clippers and Lakers.
That plan was scratched by Knicks’ brass over logistics.”
The team was concerned if they continued to wait, they would miss out on other free agents on the market.
The Knicks decided not to wait for the meeting and spent nearly all of their $70 million in cap space in the first 20 hours of free agency on players such as Julius Randle, Taj Gibson and Bobby Portis.
The only hope the team has now is that Leonard re-signs with the Raptors for a year and re-enters free agency and get another chance to convince him to come to play in Madison Square Garden.
