The Golden State Warriors squad recently reunited at Oracle Park for the San Francisco Giants versus New York Yankees game where their leader Stephen Curry had a field day. However, not all members were present, which raised a lot of eyebrows.
While Brandin Podziemski, Gui Santos, Lestor Quinones, Kevon Looney, and Trayce Jackson-Davis were present, Curry’s closest teammates, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson, didn’t turn up. Though Draymond’s absence can be expected, as he had to cover Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals the previous day due to his new role as a TNT analyst, Klay’s absence hinted at a possible trade rumor.
The trade rumors surrounding the Warriors’ swingman have been going on since the beginning of the season as his deal approaches its end. Thompson raised suspicions by reportedly rejecting a two-year contract extension with the franchise worth $48 million.
The 34-year-old couldn’t display his excellence on the hardwood when the team badly needed it in the do-or-die Play-in game and finished without putting up any score to the Warriors board. Following a sloppy performance in most of the season, Thompson bounced back in the last two months and finished the 2023-24 regular campaign, averaging 17.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game.
Though the 4-time champion has hit a rocky road, some teams would want to add the big man to their roster.
Suitors for Klay Thompson in Potential Free Agency
Despite Klay Thompson not being the effective player he once was, his experience, ball handling, and shooting skills are enough to help franchises achieve their goals with him in their squad.

According to Eric Pincus, the Orlando Magic is one of the teams interested in the Warriors veteran if he does not extend his contract with the Golden State franchise. While nothing is concrete about the interest surrounding the 34-year-old’s future, Stephen Curry will surely be hurt seeing his splash brother leave San Francisco.
While his shooting abilities will be helpful for the Magic, his versatility will make him a perfect fit for the Philadelphia 76ers. Now, one has to wait for the summer trades to see where Klay Thompson lands.
