Klay Thompson, a symbol of the Warriors’ erratic fortunes in the 2023–24 campaign, had a challenging game since he missed all ten shots, including six from beyond the arc, per the NBA website.
This is the second time this season that Thompson has failed to score any points. On November 11, he had been kept scoreless against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The No. 9 Sacramento Kings guaranteed their spot in the Play-In Tournament by defeating the No. 10 Golden State Warriors 118-94 on Tuesday night.
During Tuesday’s Play-In game at Golden 1 Center, Golden State witnessed a dramatic turnabout in their fortunes, one year after taking on the antagonistic role and leading the Sacramento Kings into the offseason following a taxing seven-game NBA playoff first-round series.
With 22 points, Steph Curry demonstrated his scoring ability, but the Warriors team suffered from mistakes. Golden State lost against the Kings 118-94 in the end, unable to overcome an early disadvantage despite their best efforts.

The five-time All-Star faces the possibility of becoming an unrestricted free agent as he waits to hear from the only NBA franchise he has ever played for, which is hoping to extend his contract.
For the 2024–25 season, Chris Paul’s contract is not guaranteed, while Klay Thompson is expected to become an unrestricted free agent. Thompson had turned down a roughly $48 million two-year contract offer.
If the Warriors decide to keep Chris Paul and sign Klay Thompson again, they will probably become a second-tier team that can only sign free players to minimal salaries.
