Klay Thompson had yet another achievement on his shelf on Christmas Day. The Dallas Mavericks star sank his 2561st three-pointer and surpassed the legendary Reggie Miller, who previously held the record at 2560. The feat came during the game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, which had Klay pushing from beyond the arc.
Surpassing an icon like Miller brought a sense of joy and fulfillment that Klay couldn’t help but share with the world. It was a significant achievement for Thompson that now has him in the fifth spot on the all-time three-pointers.
“One of my favorite memories along this journey was working out for the Knicks in June 2011, and Donnie Walsh told me how much I reminded him of Reggie. That meant the world to me and inspired me to never stop shooting. Salute to the greatest to ever shoot it @reggiemillertnt! Thanks for the blueprint OG!” Thompson wrote in his Instagram post.
Klay remembered growing up watching Miller hit those game-winning shots and battle it out on the court. As a kid raised in the ‘90s, those memories shaped his aspirations. To realize that dream of surpassing someone he idolized truly made the day special for Thompson.

“What Reggie Miller did in his era was crazy. He’d likely have a ton more in today’s era, but it’s hard for say that anyone other than Steph is the greatest shooter ever,” pointed another fan.

“Seems like Klay has some sort of bad blood or something because he was literally calling Curry the greatest way before Curry broke the 3 pointer record and now he’s saying Miller is. He’s definitely jealous or mad,” another one added.

Flashing back to his college recruitment visit to Pepperdine University, Thompson also recalled how Miller came in to help recruit him. The visit ended up in a memorable ping-pong match for the young Klay, where Miller decisively skunked him.
As Thompson reached this significant milestone during a tough game against the Dallas Mavericks. He made sure to hold on to the game ball as a way to pay tribute to the occasion. After all, every point he scored that game came from behind the arc in a tightly contested matchup.
