Many high-profile trades took place before the 2024 NBA preseason, including DeMar DeRozan’s joining the Sacramento Kings. The former Chicago Bulls forward’s arrival in the Western Conference makes the Kings a dominant force. Recently, the six-time NBA All-Star issued a warning to the other franchises about his ‘unguardable’ pairing with Domantas Sabonis.
In July, DeRozan signed a three-year, $76 million contract with the Kings. The sign-and-trade deal included the Bulls and the San Antonio Spurs. Sacramento formed a ‘Big Three’ by pairing the 15-season veteran with center Domantas Sabonis and star guard De’Aaron Fox.
Ahead of the 2024-25 NBA season, the 35-year-old wing claimed his pairing with Sabonis provides options to Sacramento, making them ‘unguardable.’ According to Sean Cunningham of FOX 40, DeRozan said, “You can’t guard it. That’s what I like about it, having an IQ big like that, being able to screen, pass the ball, make quick decisions. You got to make a decision.”
“When I’m coming off, or if he’s gonna keep it, he’s gonna score it, there’s just so many options out of that. And to be able to play out of that, it makes it tough for defensive players to kind of make a decision on either one of us,” he added.
What Could Be The Potential Starting Five For The Sacramento Kings This Season?
With DeRozan’s arrival and Harrison Barnes‘ move to the San Antonio Spurs, the Kings are likely to start the NBA veteran in the small forward position. Apart from him, De’Aaron Fox will lead the offense, and Kings center Domantas Sabonis will retain their position. Keegan Murray would partner with DeRozan as a forward.
With Malik Monk playing a sixth-man role in the last two seasons for Sacramento, he is expected to continue from the bench. The 24-year-old Keon Ellis, who started 21 games for the Kings last season, will likely start alongside Fox. On Wednesday, the Kings will host the Golden State Warriors in their opening preseason game.
