The question stemming from the latest allegations against Kevin Porter Jr. isn’t whether or not the Houston Rockets guard should play again in the NBA. He should never be on the court again and needs to do some serious time after his latest actions.
Porter Jr. was arrested this week in New York City amid allegations he savagely assaulted his girlfriend. Prosecutors said the alleged attack left Kysre Gondrezick, a free-agent WNBA player, with a fractured vertebrae and a cut over her right eye.
Before that, a police spokesman had told CNN that Porter Jr. “assaulted her, struck her multiple times and choked her.”
A major monkey wrench was thrown in the plans after Gondrezick and her representatives “strongly refute” claims of abuse in their relationship.
They say the narratives aren’t true and “in no way does that represent what their relationship has been”

“Ms. Gondrezick wants to express her deep appreciation for the public’s support and prayers. In regards to our client, much that has been written in the press attributing statements to her are misleading and inaccurate,” says Robert Hantman of Robert Hantman and Associates. “She has not granted nor released any statements on her own volition. She asks everyone to respect her privacy and avoid speculation as to what occurred and refrain from disclosing any misleading statements as to Mr. Porter.”
“She asks that the Press and all officials refrain from any judgment and speculation on this matter which will be rectified properly and with integrity. Thank you!”
Despite multiple news outlets reporting Porter had struck her repeatedly with a closed fist and forcibly choked her during the altercation, Gondrezick has stated she has not provided any verbal or written statement for prosecutorial purposes.
More from the report:
“Additionally, some reports had suggested that Gondrezick sustained a fractured vertebra in her neck as a result of the alleged assault. In response, representatives for the former WNBA player clarified that Gondrezick had not given her consent for the release of her medical records. Instead, they claimed that information regarding her injuries may have been relayed by an officer who overheard discussions among medical personnel, rather than through direct statements from the doctors treating her.
Furthermore, Gondrezick’s representatives strongly refuted claims that her relationship with Porter was tumultuous and abusive. They insisted that such narratives were untrue.
“In no way does that represent what their relationship has been.”
Porter Jr. was arrested Monday and charged with assault and strangulation. He has since posted bail but has been ordered to stay away from his girlfriend.
Days after Kevin Porter Jr.’s arrest for an alleged assault and strangulation in New York, the Houston Rockets already appear to be moving on as it pertains to their roster plans for the 2023-24 season.
Per Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Rockets have contacted multiple teams to inquire about transactions involving Porter’s contract.
At this point, it seems to be a matter of whether the Rockets can use his contract to help facilitate a trade.
Porter is fresh off his best season yet and averaged career highs in points (19.2) and rebounds (5.3) last season as Houston’s full-time starting point guard. It goes without saying that he will not touch the floor next year.
