In NBA history, many teammates have been involved in an argument or heated exchange during the game. However, a standout incident happened between former Minnesota Timberwolves teammates Kevin Garnett and Stephon Marbury, leaving the two-time All-Star bleeding on the spot.
Legendary NBA forward Kevin Garnett was known for his zeal for competency, which also involved hyping up his teammates. However, the 2004 NBA MVP once took the act too far, as he unintentionally made Marbury bleed.
Stephon Marbury played three years with Garnett at the Minnesota Timberwolves from 2006 to 2009. The 47-year-old recently appeared as a guest on Rommates Show and recalled an incident from the late 1990s when the 15-time NBA All-Star’s pre-game act rebounded immediately. He revealed the 2008 NBA champion grabbed his ear before heading to the court that left him bloodied.
Marbury said, “When he [Kevin Garnett] is going to court, he grabbed me one time and grabbed my ears and made both of my ears bleed. That’s how hard he grabbed me. But I was so hyped, I was like, ‘Yeah!’ then after, I was like, ‘Yo! I’m bleeding, dude’. But that’s him.”
Garnett Revealed Possible Reason For Marbury’s Departure
During his appearance on Laugh Out Loud Network’s Cold as Balls in 2023, the Celtics legend discussed the possible reason behind Stephon Marbury’s abrupt departure from the Minnesota Timberwolves. He told the show’s co-host, Kevin Hart, that Marbury’s ego overpowered him.

Garnett said, “I thought Steph and I are gonna be like forever. When Steph wanted to leave and for the reasons he wanted to leave because he didn’t like the contract situation, and then when I spoke to him, he said something different. It just made it weird.”
Marbury played 13 seasons in the NBA, and he reunited with Garnett at the Boston Celtics in his final NBA season. He denied a one-year contract extension from the Celtics and took a year off from basketball. In 2010, he signed with the Shanxi Zhongyu Brave Dragons and ended his career in the Chinese Basketball Association in 2018.
