Kevin Durant’s time with the Brooklyn Nets, spanning two and a half seasons, remains a story of unrealized potential. After teaming up with Kyrie Irving and James Harden, Durant was expected to lead the Nets to an NBA championship. However, injuries and unforeseen challenges disrupted their plans.
After the Suns’ recent victory over the Nets, Durant opened up about why the Brooklyn experiment failed to deliver a championship. He claimed that injuries and Covid-19 were the primary reasons the trio couldn’t reach their full potential.
“Injuries. Covid. Us not getting on the court. I think those two were the biggest factors. A lot of people would like to say our attitudes or personalities didn’t mesh well. There are a lot of narratives going around about each individual player about our mentality as men. But once we got on the court and we actually played together,” Durant said.

“Injuries to me, James, and Kyrie played a factor, along with Covid. That whole thing confused a lot of sh*t,” he added.
The trio parted ways after just 16 games together. Durant eventually moved to the Phoenix Suns in the 2022-23 season after playing only 39 games that year.

“I want to see this franchise do well. What’s it, 12-13 picks they got? When you look at the big picture, you’ve got young guys getting experience, you’re building assets, and getting future picks. Hopefully, you can draft up and put the team together well. I think they’re walking in the right direction,” Durant said.
While the Nets have been struggling with a 14-31 record, Durant remains positive about their long-term prospects, especially with the future picks and young talent they are developing. On the other hand, the Suns hold a 22-21 record, and Durant is focused on keeping them in the playoff race.
