The 2019 NBA Draft and the off-season free agency was supposed to change the New York Knicks forever. They failed miserably….again.
They didn’t secure the first overall pick and they struck out terribly in free agency.
Most notably, Kevin Durant decided to take his talents to New York, but signing with the Brooklyn Nets instead of the Knicks. During the season, there were heavy rumors that he and Kyrie Irving would be in a Knicks uniform, and he even faced questions about it from the media.
The perennial All-Star forward was asked about New York’s ability to recruit superstars and he did not mince words when speaking the truth.
“A lot of fans look at the Knicks as a brand and expect these young players who, in their lifetime, don’t remember the Knicks being good (to want to sign),” Durant said. “The cool thing right now is not the Knicks.”
The Knicks haven’t qualified for the postseason since 2013 and really haven’t been actual title contenders since the late 90’s, probably the early 2000’s.
