Durant recently engaged into a debate with a fan named
Durant recently engaged in a debate with a fan named Tyler Relph on X (formerly known as Twitter) when the fan made some remarks about the FIBA rules system. The two time NBA Champion went back and forth on his vision for embracing FIBA rules for a new era in the NBA. The debate started when Relph advised the NBA to add more rules to FIBA.
Tyler Relph: Please NBA adopt more FIBA rules and let us see the best really think the game and play the game like it’s meant to be played.
Without suppressing his curiosity, Kevin Durant asked the fan, “I swear yall just be yappin. What rules u wanna see man?”

The fan responded to Durant by outlining the regulations he would want to see added to FIBA, “I want to see the 3 seconds back, and that’s it… Do you disagree? More movement less ISO / Quicker Decisions – keep 3s the same as NBA – Can’t knock off the rim (that’s dumb)”
Durant proceeded to explain, not stopping after a single response: “If you want to eliminate defensive 3 seconds, then the games will be slower.”
Durant Emphasizes the Beauty of Basketball to the fans
Durant, who recently criticized Nike, consistently delivered outstanding performances during the most recent NBA season. He averaged 27.1 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 5.0 assists in 75 games and was selected to play in his fourteenth All-Star game.
The fan continued, “I don’t disagree with that (i’m 40, so I’m late 90s basketball lo) … but more schemes & quicker decisions offensively, not as much holding NBA is the fine, man lol it’s the best product in the world with the best players PERIOD – would love to see it … I’m watching yall do it now.”
Durant went on to say that playing basketball is beautiful because it allows skill to govern the game’s flow rather than rigid set plays.
“The beauty of basketball is not callin’ all them sets but playing off instincts and lettin’ the talent dictate the game.. gettin’ out in transition, driving and kicking, playing random basketball. U want a trick play every possession like it’s football. That’s not why our game is beautiful.” Durant wrote.
“Random basketball!! U not comprehending what I’m saying. U can RANDOMLY set a screen, RANDOMLY back cut, RANDOMLY make a pass to the open man. Focus on what I’m saying.” Durant added.
It is clear from Durant’s responses in this conversation that he never hesitates to speak up for his beliefs, even when faced with disagreement from supporters or commentators.
