Kevin Durant has never been one to hide his feelings about the media, and he recently voiced his frustrations even more directly. The Phoenix Suns star has openly admitted that he feels the media would celebrate his retirement, which has fueled his dislike for certain media personalities. One of those figures is sports analyst Stephen A. Smith, who recently criticized Durant’s leadership.
Smith’s harsh message prompted a blunt response from Durant. During an interview with Doug Haller of The Athletic, Durant didn’t hold back, referring to Smith as a “clown” and questioning his credibility.
“Yeah, Stephen A., I don’t understand how people even listen to Stephen A. I’ve been in the league for 18 years. I’ve never seen Stephen A. at a practice, a film session, or a shootaround, I’ve never seen him anywhere but on TV talking s*** about players and holding them to standards that he don’t even hold himself to or other people to,” Durant said.
“He’s a clown to me. He’s always been a clown. You can write that, too,” he added.
Bradley Beal Praises Kevin Durant’s Leadership
While sports analyst Stephen A. Smith recently criticized Kevin Durant’s leadership, Durant’s Phoenix Suns teammate Bradley Beal had only praise for him. Following their win against the Portland Trail Blazers, Beal spoke highly of Durant’s leadership style and its positive impact on the team.

“A lot of times, you’re in your mindset, you’re in kill mode, and you want everybody else to follow suit, but that encouragement that he gives, and that confidence like he gives Ryan [Dunn], that goes a long way,” Beal said.
Durant’s leadership has been a driving force behind the Suns’ 5-1 start to the season. The Suns want to keep their momentum as they prepare for their next game against the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday.
