The Phoenix Suns came out on top against the Denver Nuggets on Christmas Day, winning 110-100. After taking a hard loss to Denver just a few days before, the Suns bounced back, with Kevin Durant leading the way. Durant scored 27 points, dished out six assists, and grabbed two steals, proving he’s still a force to be reckoned with even after 16 seasons in the NBA.
In his postgame interview, Durant didn’t hold back on praising Nikola Jokic. He said, “They got arguably the best player in the world, a top 10 player of all time in Jokic.” Jokic has been unreal this season, averaging 30.7 points, 12.6 rebounds, and 9.4 assists per game. Even though Jokic put up 25 points and 15 rebounds in this one, the Nuggets couldn’t pull out the win, struggling with their depth this season.

Despite Jokic’s individual brilliance, the Denver Nuggets have struggled this season, with a 16-12 record so far. While Nikola Jokic continues to garner awards, including three MVPs and a Finals MVP, the team has not been able to match their championship-level performance from last year. As a result, the Nuggets have found it difficult to close out winnable games and maintain their status as contenders.
Kevin Durant Celebrates NBA Stars After Memorable Christmas Day Games
In the same post-game interview, Durant gave a shoutout to some of the NBA’s biggest stars, including Jokic and Russell Westbrook, for helping make the Christmas Day games such a special event. He also took a moment to recognize the younger players making their mark on the league and contributing to what many are calling one of the best Christmas Day slates in recent NBA history.
Durant said, “There’s so many great talents in this league. It’s not just us three, you see Jokic tonight. You see a [future] Hall of Famer, an icon in Russ [Russell Westbrook], out here tonight. You see so many young players around the league today. It was an amazing day for basketball. I’m grateful I was able to play today on this great day, entertain the fans, and get a win at home. I’m grateful.“
Fans haven’t been able to stop talking about the Christmas Day games, with many calling it one of the most exciting days of NBA action ever. LeBron James even chimed in, saying Christmas belongs to the NBA, not the NFL. While the league has faced struggles with keeping fans engaged in recent years, this Christmas might be the beginning of something new for the NBA.
