Kevin Durant played for the Golden State Warriors for three seasons and they were widely successful. By the time his third year came around, it was obvious his time was up and he was ready to depart from the franchise.
The two-time NBA champion had issues and blowups with members of the team as well as the media during his time there and that includes Ethan Strauss.
“You got a dude, Ethan Strauss, who come in here and give his whole opinion on stuff and make it seem like it’s coming from me. He walk around here, don’t talk to nobody, just walk in here, survey, and write something like that,” Durant said in February 2019.
Well over a year later, Durant is now with the Brooklyn Nets and still recovering from a torn Achilles injury suffered in the 2019 NBA Finals.
Strass has since written a book on the Warriors, titled “The Victory Machine: The Making and Unmaking of the Warriors Dynasty.”
It prompted him to reach out to Durant for an interview, but what he got was anger.
“Months later, with Durant settled in Brooklyn, Strauss texted him to see if he would talk to him for “The Victory Machine.”
“It feels like due diligence but also like a chance for Strauss to eke out one more anecdote for the book. “Fuck u, fuck your sources and your book,” Durant replied. He’s no longer on the team, but he’s on the cover of the book, anyway—alone, per The New Yorker.
