Kawhi Leonard has already flourished in his NBA resume by winning two championships. However, despite being in contention several times, the Los Angeles Clippers player is yet to win the coveted MVP award.
Recently, former NBA player Kendrick Perkins shared his thoughts on this during an appearance on NBA Today. During the show, Perkins crowned Leonard as the best player to have never won the MVP award.
Perkins especially recalled Leonard’s historic performance during the 2019 NBA Finals. During that series, the former Toronto Raptors star led the Raptors to their first-ever championship.
“I’m going, Kawhi Leonard. What he did that Finals run when he was in Toronto, helping them deliver their first championship in franchise history, Kawhi Leonard is the guy that I’m rolling with,” Perkins said.
Lou Williams Believes Kawhi Leonard Can Make History with Clippers
When Kawhi Leonard joined the Los Angeles Clippers as a free agent in July 2019, many were surprised by his decision to turn down the opportunity to join the Los Angeles Lakers. While the Clippers star has already built an impressive NBA career, he is still searching for his first championship with the Los Angeles Clippers.
Despite this, former Clippers player Lou Williams believes Leonard has a unique opportunity to create his own legacy with the team. Speaking with ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne, Williams explained why Leonard’s decision to choose the Clippers over the Lakers gives him the chance to do something truly special.

“Obviously, he can create a legacy here that hadn’t been done in years past. He can basically have a franchise to himself when his legacy is all said and done. At the Lakers, they have a rich history of players. Kawhi has the opportunity to do something special and be the first guy to do it,” Will said.
Leonard lost Paul George this offseason as he moved to the Philadelphia 76ers. With more responsibility on his shoulder, Leonard-led Clippers will kick off the season with a game against the Golden State Warriors.
