During a recent episode of the sports talk show ‘First Take,’ American sports television personality Stephen A. Smith discussed LeBron James’ future plans with Kendrick Perkins and Shannon Sharpe. In response, Perkins made some bold statements regarding the Los Angeles Lakers star player King James. He said that James should retire soon because if he continues to play, it will directly impact his legacy and his claim to being the greatest of all time (GOAT).
“I wish LeBron James would retire. Not because I don’t want to see more of LeBron James, not because I don’t appreciate him, but I honestly believe deep down inside, the more James continues to play the game of basketball, the more it’s going to hurt his legacy and the more it’s going to continue to hurt his GOAT argument.” Kendrick Perkins said.
Recently, before the elimination of the Lakers from the playoff series, LeBron James asserted that he wanted to play with his son Bronny James in the NBA before retiring from his career. So it is clear that he will play at least one more season.
James has had an incredible career with numerous great achievements
James had another outstanding season this year, averaging 25.7 points, 8.3 assists, and 7.3 rebounds in 71 games. His dominant performances helped the Lakers secure a spot in the playoffs. Despite the combined efforts of Anthony Davis and LeBron James, the Lakers fell short and lost to the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the playoff series.
Kendrick Perkins argues that Lebron James’ legacy will be affected in the future. However, it can be countered that James has already achieved an incredible amount, and his performance in upcoming seasons will only add to his legacy.
