Last night it was reported by several outlets that Philadelphia 76ers starting forward Kelly Oubre Jr. was in stable condition at a Philadelphia hospital after getting struck by a car.
At the time, there was little known about the incident, other than it had left Oubre Jr. with injuries that were bad enough to keep him out of the lineup for what’s expected to be a significant amount of time.
Now, we’re getting more details about the frightening accident. And they’re pretty shocking.
According to the Philadelphia Police Department, Oubre Jr. was “struck in the upper chest area by a silver vehicle traveling at a high-rate speed.” They also note that the driver fled the scene.
Shams Charania noted that Oubre Jr. had sustained broken ribs and multiple bruises and cuts as a result of the incident. He’ll be out of the Sixers lineup for a while, but the good thing is he’s still alive and expected to make a full recovery after all of this.
Hopefully the police will be able to find the driver of the vehicle and bring him to justice.
