Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns has suffered a torn meniscus in his left knee and is out indefinitely.
Shams Charania broke the alarming news less than twenty-four hours after the Timberwolves declared that Towns would be out for Thursday’s game against the Indiana Pacers because of “left knee soreness.”
How much time will Towns miss? That is dependent upon how bad the rip is. Joel Embiid is expected to return this season, however there is no set date for his comeback. He has missed 15 straight games due to a torn meniscus.
ESPN reporter Adrian Wojnarowski has said that it’s unclear how much time(if any) he has to miss.

What can Minnesota do with Karl-Anthony Towns injured?
The Timberwolves, who are leading the Western Conference, have received a big blow. Minnesota has choices for Towns’ starting lineup replacement now that he is sidelined. Though Naz Reid would be a good choice if Minnesota wanted as much offensive firepower as possible to match Towns’ performance, Kyle Anderson has often been chosen to start.
In 60 games this season, Towns has averaged 22.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 42.3% from three-point range. It will be very tough to replace him, which would worsen Minnesota’s offensive outlook—the team is currently placed 18th in offensive rating, which makes it risky.
With Towns and Anthony Edwards on the floor, Minnesota’s net rating is +9.0, with a 121.5 offensive rating and a 112.5 defensive rating so far this season.
With Towns off the floor and Edwards in the paint, Minnesota’s net rating is +13.1, driven by a scorching 101.3 defensive rating and a 114.5 offensive rating. That gives hope for the remainder of the season, but what will happen if Towns is hurt and Edwards requires a break?
It’s not very good. The Wolves have a 105.5 offensive rating and a 110.1 defensive rating, which allows them to have a -4.6 net rating even with Towns and Edwards sitting on the sidelines.
