LeBron James claimed that the NBA has topped the NFL in terms of Christmas Day ratings. “Christmas is our day,” said James soon after the Lakers won a thriller against the Golden State Warriors. Unfortunately, the reality turned out to be quite different. The NFL’s viewership ratings wreaked havoc on the NBA. And guess what? The NBA had more games scheduled on Christmas Day than the NFL!
In a recent update on X from ‘NFL Media,’ the numbers that the football league got are staggering. With just two scheduled games, the NFL ratings stood at 65 million! Adding further to the NBA’s woes, the Chiefs vs Steelers game garnered a view of 24.1 million. And if this was not enough, the Ravens vs Texans game also did not lag far behind. Its viewership stood at 24.3 million. Together, these two games became the most-streamed NFL games in US history.

*Unduplicated audience of nearly 65 million US viewers
*Ravens-Texans (24.3 million) & Chiefs-Steelers (24.1 million) are most-streamed NFL games in US history

In fact, the viewership for the Ravens game went soaring during the Beyonce Bowl, with over 27 million users engaging. Surely, these numbers are quite the opposite of what James claimed. Thus, the internet took no time to lash out at the bold claims of the 39-year-old NBA legend.

But let’s not get overly excited about “most streamed”. Streaming is just coming out of its infancy stage. New records every year.
Thus, with the NBA getting obliterated, it now remains to be seen how the league will address the issue of its declining viewership in the coming days.
