In Game 3 of the 2024 Western Conference finals, Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves with a flourish, moving one step closer to the NBA Finals. The Texans used their home-court edge and dominated their opponents with a brilliant fourth-quarter display.
Following the game, Luka Doncic spoke about how crucial it was to secure one more victory to seal the deal and make it to the NBA Finals for the first time since 2011.

The Mavericks have improved their play at the perfect time. They eliminated higher-seeded opponents in the previous two rounds before needing a seventh game. The Timberwolves, who defeated the reigning champion Denver Nuggets in the second round, are one victory away from sweeping them.
Doncic and Kyrie Irving had a tremendous game tonight. The dynamic duo scored 66 points (thirty-three each), with 14 coming from Irving in the fourth quarter. They made history by being the first starting backcourt in fifty years to score thirty points apiece in three consecutive postseason games.

Throughout this series, Luka Doncic has been somewhat outspoken. He also mocked Rudy Gobert after he made the game-winning 3-pointer in Game 2. By going after Anthony Edwards after the game tonight, he elevated his game.

Doncic remained reticent to provide specifics of the conversation when questioned about it. “I can’t say,” Luka said.
At the beginning of the season, nobody had the Dallas Mavericks as their favorite to make it to the NBA Finals in 2024. It wasn’t until after the trade deadline that they were viewed as a danger to the best teams in the West.
Kyrie Irving is the ideal complement for Luka Doncic. Following difficult periods in Boston and Brooklyn, the 2016 NBA champion seems to have settled into a routine. With Irving and Doncic’s connection, the Mavericks seem poised to make a statement by going all the way to win the Larry O’Brien trophy this season.
